Delicious fried dough balls made with ricotta cheese, perfect for enjoying during Carnevale. This recipe combines ricotta, flour, sugar, and orange zest for a sweet treat.
In a bowl, combine ricotta and sugar, mixing well.
Add the egg and continue mixing with a spoon.
Grate the orange zest and add it to the ricotta and egg mixture.
Sift in the flour and baking powder, then combine everything until homogeneous.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
After resting, form equally sized balls with slightly wet or floured hands.
Heat the peanut oil in a deep pot, ensuring it's hot enough (test with a toothpick).
Fry the ricotta balls in batches for about 5 minutes, turning them continuously.
Drain on paper towels and roll in sugar while hot.
